The Coalition posted 55 Gears of War: E-Day achievements on September 9, a 1,000G set capped by an 85-point combo named Dead Serious. The prequel launches October 6 on Xbox and PC, including Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Dead Serious asks for Insane campaign completion, 25,000 Versus kills, max player level, and four maxed Horde Siege classes.

Nicole Fawcette, Studio Brand Director at The Coalition, introduced the full 55-achievement list the way Gears lists always arrive: with a warning attached.

Gears of War has always been famous, sometimes infamous, for its Achievements and Gears of War: E-Day is no exception.

A Steam Bug Put the List on the Clock

The studio had not planned a September dump. A Valve API error that morning let tracker sites ingest private Steam achievement data for unreleased games, E-Day among them. Exophase owner Mike Bendel said titles whose lists should have stayed hidden were suddenly readable through the API. Hours later, The Coalition put the Xbox list on the record, 27 days before launch.

THE WEEK THE LIST LEFT THE VAULT

  1. September 9, 2026, morning: A Steam maintenance bug exposes unreleased achievement names, including E-Day’s, on public tracker sites.
  2. September 9, afternoon: Fawcette publishes all 55 Xbox achievements, from a 0-point closer to an 85-point combo.
  3. October 1, 2026: Premium Edition buyers get campaign access five days early.
  4. October 6, 2026: E-Day launches on Xbox Series X|S, Windows, and Steam, with Xbox Play Anywhere and day-one Game Pass.

The official Gears account treated the leak as a spoiler problem first and a trophy card second, then pointed hunters at the clean copy.

Xbox’s newsroom account added the line fans were waiting for: “Yes, there’s a new Seriously waiting to be unlocked.” The new name is Dead Serious. The old job is the same.

The New Name for Gears’ Oldest Grind

Original Gears of War asked for 10,000 ranked Versus kills and called it Seriously. Gears of War 2 multiplied that to 100,000 kills in any mode. Later entries turned the joke into a mega-checklist: Insane campaign, medals, Re-Ups, classes, Horde maps. E-Day splits the kill count and bolts the rest back on.

HEY NOW, YOU’RE AN ALL STAR… wants 25,000 Versus kills. I WILL MASSACRE YOU wants 50,000 Horde Siege kills on any difficulty. Dead Serious then folds the Versus total into a four-part combo with Insane 100 percent campaign work, max Player Level, and max ranks on Assault, Breacher, Marksman, and Medic.

What Does Dead Serious Require?

The Coalition already told players what the badge is for. In its multiplayer deep dive, the studio called Dead Serious an updated version of Seriously, one of four Mastery achievements that each award a Legendary character skin. The 85G is the public score. The skin is the private flex, the same social function Seriously always had in a lobby.

Most notably, E-Day features four Mastery achievements that each award a Legendary Character Skin, including an updated version of Gears’ most notorious achievement; Seriously? (which we’ve called Dead Serious for E-Day).

The Coalition, Gears of War: E-Day Multiplayer Deep Dive

A campaign clear on Casual does not touch it. A solo Insane run does not finish it. You need the PvP kill total and four Horde classes at the cap, which is why the list reads less like a weekend plan than a season of play.

Campaign Acts Pay 15 Points Apiece

The story still gets the first page of the card. E-Day is an origin-story campaign in Kalona, told across five acts as Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago watch the Locust come up through their own city. Thirteen story beats unlock during those acts at 15G each, with names that already sketch the set pieces: Got to the Choppa in Act 2, Get Back You Eight-legged Freak in Act 3, The Only Good Bug is a Dead Bug in Act 4.

Remember Kalona is 25G for finishing every act on any difficulty. Today We Are Canceling the Apocalypse is 25G for doing it on Insane. You’re My Brother is 15G for a full co-op clear, any difficulty. FNG, the old military insult for the new guy, is 15G for Boot Camp.

Cleanup sits on the same 15G rung: all secondary objectives, all Hard Cases, all collectibles, all campaign Supply Cache items. For Whom The Bell Tolls is the campaign’s own brute, 75G for Insane plus every side mission and hidden item. The title matches a licensed Metallica instrumental the studio is putting in the menus. The work is a second Insane pass with a clipboard.

Campaign-tied tasks still hold the largest slice of the 1,000G. They do not hold Dead Serious. That is the split the Seriously games always made, and E-Day makes it in public.

50,000 Kills Live in Horde Siege

Horde Siege is a 12-player PvE mode, three squads of four, on large Kalona district maps. You pick Assault, Breacher, Marksman, or Medic, run a R.I.G. task, and extract on a Raven. Blitz runs about 15 to 20 minutes, Siege 20 to 40, classic Horde 50 to 60 against 10 waves. Infantry is aimed at class levels 10 to 20, Commander at 20 to 30, Allfather at maxed classes with a slim chance of survival.

Sixteen achievements name that mode outright. Lift Outta Hell wants 50 missions survived on Infantry or higher. Best I Can Do Is a Pizza Party wants 100 secondary tasks. Stacks, On Stacks, On Stacks wants 150,000 Energy spent at Supply Caches. Like a Boss wants 25 Invasion Events, the Corpser-and-Brumak fights that pull all three squads onto one boss. Never Fight Alone wants a full-squad extract on Allfather. Siege Specialist wants every class at max, which Dead Serious needs too.

A four-player group is not a bonus for this card. Who Loves Ya, Baby? wants 20 revives of players from other squads. Down, but Not Dead wants 250 squad revives with the Medic’s Stim Vaporizer. I Didn’t Hear No Bell wants you to save the whole squad while you are nearly dead. The completion path assumes people you can queue with more than once, which is what players already started asking for when the mode was shown in July.

THE HEAVY END OF THE 1,000G

Bucket Achievements Gamerscore Heaviest task
Campaign-tied 22 410 For Whom The Bell Tolls, 75G
Horde Siege 16 260 50,000 kills, any difficulty
Versus 4 70 25,000 kills
Cross-mode and Mastery 13 260 Dead Serious, 85G

Versus only names four tasks, and two of them are jokes on specific maps. The 25,000-kill All Star badge is the one that feeds Dead Serious. Somebody Set Us Up the Bomb is a clean Demolition plant. It Only Game, Why You Heff to Be Mad? is a Conquest shutout. Days Since Last Accident: 0 is a workplace safety gag on Battleship. Ranked and Social playlists both exist; the kill total does not say which one counts, only that it has to happen in Versus.

Wings Come After 500 Player Levels

Field Service is 15G for hitting Player Level 100 and Re-Up for the first time. Got Your Wings is 25G for the last Re-Up. Player XP comes from Horde Siege, Versus, and weekly challenges. Level caps at 100, then you reset the displayed rank, keep your unlocks, and start the next cycle.

THE RANK CLIMB INSIDE E-DAY

  • Level cap: Player Level stops at 100 in each cycle before a Re-Up is offered.
  • Four Re-Ups: The studio counts that as 500 total levels of account growth.
  • Wings: Hitting 100 on the last cycle awards Gears 2-inspired wings beside your gamertag or Steam name.
  • Weekly split: Twelve challenges drop each week, six in Horde Siege and six in Versus, for Player XP.

Medals return from Gears of War 3 with a new Diamond tier on top of Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Onyx. Launch ships more than 80 medal series. Diamond caps a series with a Player Title. You can pin three medals on your emblem. Every achievement also unlocks a Title, so the 1,000G card is a cosmetics track as much as a score.

There is no battle pass. Skins, charms, and poses are meant to come from play, challenges, medals, and Coins, with Iron as optional cash. That pitch is why a 50,000-kill Horde task does not feel like a store funnel. It feels like the old Gears deal: the time is the price, and the lobby sees who paid it.

Chainsaws, Tickers, and a Zero-Point Tombstone

The rest of the 15G row is the series doing bits. Chainsaw Go Brrrrrrrrr wants the Lancer used the way the poster always promised. Okay, Boomer. wants a Boomer carved up. Right in the Ticker wants a Ticker kicked back as air mail. Explosive Indigestion is cornhole with a Bilefrog. Crepe du Raven wants a close look at the underside of a dropship. Two Grubs, One Gut-Punch is a double with a single round. Payback’s A Pitch is revenge on an Armored Wretch that just stunned you.

THE GAGS THAT STILL COST A RUN

  • Crepe du Raven: Inspect the underside of a Raven during Horde Siege, a 15G pause in a mode built around extraction timers.
  • Days Since Last Accident: 0: Commit a workplace safety violation on the Versus map Battleship.
  • I Am Heavy Weapons Guy: Kill 10 enemies in a row with one detached turret, campaign or Horde.
  • The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day: Earn every other achievement, scored at 0G, the platinum-style tombstone on an Xbox 1,000G card.

That 0-pointer is the tell. Xbox lists usually stop at 1,000G. E-Day still does, then adds a nameless-feeling closer so Steam and Xbox hunters finish on the same dark joke. The lucky ones died on Emergence Day. The rest Re-Up four times, max four classes, and live in Horde Siege until the wings show up next to the name.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Gears of War: E-Day Have a Platinum Achievement?

The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day is a 0-point closer that pops when every other achievement is unlocked, the same job a PlayStation platinum does. The Coalition also said every achievement unlocks a Player Title for multiplayer lobbies, and four Mastery achievements each award a Legendary character skin, Dead Serious among them.

What Is Allfather Difficulty in Horde Siege?

Allfather is the top Horde Siege setting, recommended only for max-level classes, and The Coalition describes those missions as having a slim chance of survival. Never Fight Alone asks you to extract with every squadmate still alive on that difficulty, which is a 15G task separate from Dead Serious.

Can You Play the E-Day Campaign in Co-Op?

Campaign supports four-player online co-op and two-player split-screen, with split-screen limited to console. You’re My Brother unlocks for finishing every act in co-op on any difficulty, so a two-player run still counts and does not require a full four-stack.

Is Gears of War: E-Day on Game Pass and Steam?

It launches October 6, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and Windows, including Steam, with Xbox Play Anywhere and day-one access on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Online campaign co-op, Horde Siege, and Versus still require a Game Pass plan that includes multiplayer, sold separately.

How Do Re-Ups Work in Gears of War: E-Day?

Player Level caps at 100, then you can Re-Up four times. Each Re-Up grants an exclusive reward and resets the displayed level to 1 while keeping unlock history. XP comes from Horde Siege, Versus, and those 12 weekly challenges, and the wings appear after level 100 on the final cycle.
