Interior design isn’t easy, especially when you’re just getting started. With all of the options available in the market, and new design trends emerging, it may be incredibly confusing. So, if you’re unsure where to begin, our guide is here to help you!

Pick a look

Before you begin interior design, you must first decide on a style or design for your space. This includes picking a style that makes you feel comfortable, not only to design but also to live in. In order to find your design, the first thing you should do is go through your closet. Examine the colours you wear the most—do they lean towards neutrals or are they mostly vibrant? Next, consider the type of materials you own the most, as this will reveal the textures and patterns you prefer. You can start checking out different interior design styles once you have a general notion of the colours and textures you want in your space.

Get some ideas

Inspiration is one of the most crucial aspects of home design, and you can get it anywhere! The best way to make sense of your style and design choices is by making a mood board. To make a visual mood board, start by cutting out interiors and design styles from magazines that you like. Choose from a variety of colours, create swatches, and research interiors from all over the world. You can also create a mood board by using social media applications like Pinterest and Instagram. This can help you better understand the styles you enjoy. Once you’ve finished your mood boards, check for commonalities between them—colours, furnishings, and style—to get a better idea of the type of interior design you prefer. Don’t worry if your design incorporates more than one style; you don’t have to stick to one type of design; you may mix and match.

You will find that you’ve created a design guide as well as a list of things you like. This will assist you in choosing on a colour scheme as well as the type of furnishings you choose.

Choose a colour scheme

The personality, décor and furnishings of your home will be determined by the colour pallet you choose. The three-colour theory is the ideal approach to choosing a colour palette: use one colour for the walls, one for larger pieces and accessories like furniture, and one for minor accents like décor. This will make the entire space look more balanced and coherent. Of course, you don’t have to follow this notion, but it’s a nice place to start. It is critical, however, that you avoid purchasing matching furniture sets, as they will make the space appear cluttered. Instead, choose accent pieces that are similar in colour but different in design or similar in design but different in colour. This will give your space a visual depth and make it appear more well-planned and balanced.

It’s vital to remember that interior design is an art, and you may enrich your space and make it look more timeless and appealing by integrating actual art or drawing inspiration from artworks. Remembering the differences between cool and warm tones can help you decide how to paint and decorate each room:

Warm colours attract the eye’s attention, making the space appear smaller and narrower. Yellow, red, and orange are examples of these colours. They can be used to make spaces that have narrow and difficult shapes appear smaller and more coherent.

Cool colours divert the eye’s attention away from the room, making it appear larger and wider. Dark green, cold blue, and other colours are among them. They can be utilised to create the sense of a larger space in smaller rooms.

Monochrome and bright: If you would like to have an accent wall in your home, you will have to decide to choose between monochrome and bright. For a monochrome look, you can choose a darker tone than the tone of your other walls to create depth and impact. On the other hand, if you have gone with neutral walls and want a pop of colour, having an accent wall in a bright colour will make the room look better. You can also choose to wall mount your technology on your accent wall so that no focal points are competing with each other. To get your TV wall mounted by professionals, click here.

Lighting

You mustn’t miss the lighting, as it can make or break the room. Lighting also decides how the colours look on your walls- the same colour can look very different in different lights. Make sure, before you choose your colours, you look at it in natural light, the light you plan to install in your room as well as in bright lights. This will ensure that you choose the right colour and the right lighting.
